Introduction
Nicole The Celebrant ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit our website or engage our services, how it's used, and the choices you have. We operate in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
This policy applies to all personal information collected through our website (nicolethecelebrant.com.au), through email or phone enquiries, and during the provision of celebrant services.
What We Collect
When you contact us through our website, email, or phone, we may collect:
- Your full name
- Your email address and phone number

- Any other information you choose to share with your enquiry
When you book us as your celebrant, we additionally collect the legal information required under the Marriage Act 1961, including:

- Identification documents (passport, birth certificate, driver's licence)
- Previous marriage information where applicable
- Witnesses' details on the day of the ceremony
How We Use Your Information
We use the information collected to:
- Respond to your enquiry and assess availability
- Prepare and lodge legal marriage documentation with the relevant state registry
- Conduct your ceremony as agreed
- Send invoices and process payments
- Communicate with you in the lead-up to and after your ceremony
- Improve our services and respond to feedback
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
Legal Disclosure
We are required by Australian law to lodge certain marriage information with the relevant state Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages. This is the only mandatory third-party disclosure of your personal information.
We may also disclose information where required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights.
Data Storage & Security
Your personal information is stored securely on password-protected devices and cloud services. Hard-copy legal documents (such as NOIM forms) are stored in a secure, locked location for the period required by law, then destroyed.
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure.
Photographs & Video From Ceremonies
If you book us as your celebrant, you may also be asked to consent (or opt out) of having ceremony photographs and video footage shared on our website and social media channels. This is covered in detail in our Ceremony Agreement and is entirely your choice — it has no impact on the ceremony itself.
See our Image & Photo Credits page for more on how ceremony imagery is used and credited.
Website Cookies & Analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to understand how visitors use our site so we can improve it. This may include Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and Meta Pixel. The information collected is generally anonymised and aggregated.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time. Doing so will not affect your ability to use our website.
Your Rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
- Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Request that we correct any inaccurate information
- Request that we delete your information (where legally permitted — marriage records are legally required to be retained)
